Sabbatical Blog: 9/25 Orlando - Ormond Beach, FL

9/25 Orlando back to Ormond Beach, FL
We started our day with a buffet breakfast at Sizzler. It was a good eat, and Kylie was full and content afterwards, as was I. We came back to the hotel, my Dad and Kathy packed up and left for home shortly after. We had arranged for a late 4pm checkout and planned to hang-out for a few hours more.

We all took a nap that afternoon. Traci and watched caught the end of a show on the History Channel about Nicaragua as well as a show about a 1996 crisis in Liberia. It was very interesting, I don’t remember knowing much about what was going on in this country back then. From the footage, it was chaos. And all through this time the US never closed the Embassy. They brought in DSS agents to help defend the Embassy, and these guys also rescued some journalists in a nearby hotel, that was getting caught in the cross-fire of rival street gangs.

After our collective naps, we finally hit the pool again. Only 45 minutes today, but it was nice to be out in the sun. Just after 4pm we hit the road for the 1 hour drive to Ormond Beach, but we hit rush-hour traffic through Orlando, so it took us closer to 1 hour 45 minutes. After hanging out for a bit, we headed to Woody’s BBQ. They had some excellent baby back ribs at this place as well as sweet potato fries. It was a good meal worth writing about.

When we got home, we watched the next episode of “The War” on PBS. It was interesting watching this with my Grandparents, only to hear their recollections of life at this time in our country’s history. How my Grandmother’s Brothers signed up for service, my Great Uncle Gene was denied by Navy because of a medical condition, and instead joined the Merchant Marines and sailed the world.

My Grandfather reflected a bit on his time in the Marines… and just before heading up to bed, he got a massive Nose bleed. The kind of nose bleed that doesn’t stop. Apparently this was the second time this has happened. The next 30+ minutes were spent trying to get it to stop. Then my Grandma decided it was time to go to the emergency room. So I drove us all to the nearby hospital in Flagler Beach. They ended up sticking what the doctor called a glorified tampon up his nose…. Deep up his nose. It was painful to watch and painful for him, but this thing is supposed to put pressure on his sinus (where the bleeding was coming from) and swell up to stop the bleeding. I’m glad I was there and able to help. It’s scary when that much blood is coming out and won’t stop. You kind of panic.

Kylie sitting in the chair her Grandparents bought her. She really likes it... the music is really catchy, so much so that we all found ourselves humming or singing the songs too (even when Kylie wasn't playing on the chair).

Traci poolside enjoying her Miami Vice. They don't make Lava Flows in Florida, and I think the Miami Vice is the closest thing to a Lava Flow.

Kylie drying off.

Kylie was so serious and intent in reading. I had to take a picture of it.Great Grandma and Kylie
Grandpa buying Kylie a gumball... knowing she can't chew it, but she could be fascinated by the spiral thing at the bottom.
